Merger Announcement

For Immediate Release - BDFC to merge with Utah Soccer Alliance (USA)

The Boards of Directors of Black Diamond FC (BDFC) and Utah Soccer Alliance (USA) are excited to announce the merger of their competitive soccer programs – effective immediately. Black Diamond FC will join Utah Soccer Alliance, and will be rebranded as “USA Metro” under Utah Soccer Alliance.  Both Utah Soccer Alliance and Black Diamond FC are member organizations of Utah Youth Soccer Association.

Black Diamond FC and Utah Soccer Alliance possess similar core values and philosophies as it pertains to player development and club operations.  By combining our coaching and player pools, this merger allows for the movement of players, based on the ability and needs of each particular player; and brings together a wealth of resources off the field which will help propel the club to greater heights.

BDFC and USA are two like-minded clubs that focus on the development of youth players, evidenced in the number of players and coaches involved in UYSA Olympic Development, as well as with US Youth Soccer (USYS).

The excitement that comes from combining the passion and expertise of the coaching staffs at USA and BDFC, will quickly translate to the continued development of players for Utah Youth Soccer.  We are confident that this merger will provide your player the best opportunity to develop their abilities and a love for the game.

The future USA Metro teams will continue to practice and play in the Metro Salt Lake City area at our current field locations.

For questions and additional information regarding the merger please contact Fred Velez, Dennis Burrows, Rich Hathaway, or Richie Breza.

Bobby Kennedy honored with the Distinguished Service Award and named the 2A High School Coach of The Year!

By Kendra Tomsic, Director of Athletics - Rowlnad Hall School

Bobby Kennedy, Girls Soccer Head Coach, was recently nominated by Region 14 and subsequently selected by the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) awards committee as a recipient for a 2015 Distinguished Service Award as the 2A Coach of the Year, not simply for soccer, but for all 2A sports.

As a soccer coach with 25 years experience including playing both collegiately and professionally, Bobby understands the game extremely well and has a true gift for passing that knowledge along to his athletes. He uses a style that seems to bring out the best in each one of them. Coach Kennedy is demanding yet patient and encouraging, and his efforts over the past 12 years have brought Rowland Hall a state runner-up trophy for the girls team in 2006, the State 2A Girls Championship in 2014, a Region 14 title this season, and a berth in the State 2A Girls semi-finals this year. He led the boys soccer team to a No. 1 ranking in 2007 and to back-to-back Boys 2A State championships in 2008 and 2009. Bobby is a superior role model and well-rounded coach who cares more about the heart and the effort of his players than about accomplishments, recognition, or trophies. These are the characteristics that led the UHSAA to select him for this prestigious award.

The UHSAA Distinguished Service Award was initiated in 1987 to honor individuals for their service and contributions to high school activities. It is the association’s way of saying thank you on behalf of the many lives that honorees have touched during their careers.

Coach Kennedy will be honored at an awards luncheon in January. Congratulations, BK, on an honor well earned and certainly well deserved! The Rowland Hall community is proud of you.
